low

my day started off with united losing to arsenal in the fa cup final on penalties. it was the summary of united's season: dominated plenty of games without winning.

the big walk meant an early rise. thanks to extra time and penalties early in the morning, i was up again at 5am.

my parents and i - my dad does the big walk every year - took a cab to the national stadium. they went off to wait for the start. i went to register for the nikon shootout.

after registering, i took my camera out of the bag and switched it on.

no response.

i took the shuttle bus to town, intending to head home to get my film camera. on the bus, the camera somehow revived itself, as though i'd given it some sort of electronic CPR.

decided to wait for the frontrunners in the competitive walk. three shots in, my camera failed again. this time, for good.

took the shuttle back to the stadium. an agonising two hour wait to get a goodie bag and to participate in the lucky draw. was it worth it?

sort of. the goodie bag items were relatively useful. the lucky draw prizes were pretty good. and i missed an 8-megapixel Nikon Coolpix 8400 by one digit. to rub it in, that person, number 338, wasn't around.

that would have been nice. but i would have settled for my camera not going kaput. more money down the drain as i have to get it repaired.
